Tewkesbury students get hands-on with nature

Team Science at Tewkesbury Academy recently took Key Stage 3 students on an exciting trip to Tewkesbury Nature Reserve, where they explored the local wildlife, woodlands and waterways.

The students enjoyed getting hands-on with nature, taking part in a range of outdoor activities, including bug hunting, fire lighting and river dipping.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to explore their local environment, develop practical skills and learn beyond the classroom.

One Year 7 student said: “The nature reserve was very fun. I loved that we went river dipping and my group caught three fish. I can’t remember the fish names, but it was really fun! I also loved that we used cotton wool, newspaper and wood, with flint and steel in a biscuit tin, to build our own fire.

“At the end of the trip, I didn’t want to go home. It was my favourite day of Year 7.”

A spokesperson for Tewkesbury Academy said: “We are delighted that our students had such an enjoyable and memorable experience at Tewkesbury Nature Reserve.

“Opportunities like this bring learning to life, allowing students to develop practical skills, build confidence and deepen their appreciation of the natural world.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership with the reserve and organising more exciting outdoor learning experiences in the future.”
