Tewkesbury students enjoy an inspiring day in London

A group of 50 design and technology students from Tewkesbury Academy enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to London to explore the worlds of fashion, art and food.

The students split into groups to experience a range of cultural and creative attractions, linking their classroom learning with real-world inspiration.

One group visited the Fashion and Textile Museum, where they explored the work of Ossie Clark, the iconic British fashion designer renowned for helping define the style of London’s ‘Swinging Sixties’ and early 1970s. Viewing his designs gave students an insight into the creativity, craftsmanship and influence of British fashion.

The group then visited Tate, home to the national collection of British art and an extensive collection of international modern and contemporary art. The visit offered students the opportunity to experience a diverse range of artistic styles and ideas, providing further inspiration for their own creative work.

Meanwhile, students studying food technology took part in a Walk, Eat, London tour of Borough Market, one of the capital’s best-known historic food markets, located near London Bridge. Students explored the market’s vibrant food culture, discovered a variety of ingredients and flavours, and gained a greater appreciation of food, its origins and its place in contemporary society.

Tamsin Cummins, Head of Design & Technology, and Helen Butt, Design & Technology teacher, said:

“Trips like this are a fantastic opportunity for our students to take their learning beyond the classroom.

“From exploring iconic fashion designs and world-renowned art collections to discovering the rich variety of food at Borough Market, the day allowed students to gain fresh inspiration, broaden their knowledge and make meaningful connections with their studies.

“It was wonderful to see them engaging with new experiences and developing their understanding of the creative industries.”
