BTEC Level 3 Applied Science

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Applied Science qualification has been developed to ensure that it supports progression to higher education and those planning to enter employment or apprenticeships in the applied science sector. Through applied learning, students develop transferable and higher order skills such as communication, problem-solving, time management, organisational and practical skills.
These are highly regarded by both HE and employers. Everyone taking this qualification will study three mandatory units:

Principles and Application of Science (examination 25%}
Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques (coursework 25%)
Science Investigation Skills {practical task 33%)
Students also choose one option unit (coursework 17%)

Subject Specific Entry Requirements

In addition to the standard entry requirements, the following subject entry criteria should be met: Double grade 5 if combined science. Preferable 5 in GCSE science. Separate science requires Grade 5 in two out of the three science GCSE subjects; 5 in GCSE English; 5 in GCSE Maths

This Course Will Lead to

The qualification is equivalent in size to one A level. The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by HE providers as contributing to meeting admission requirements for many courses.
