An interesting new course for 2026!
The Eduqas Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology is a course that combines criminology, psychology, sociology, and law to help students understand crime, criminal behaviour, and the criminal justice system. The qualification is divided into four units.
Unit 1
Changing Awareness of Crime, explores different types of crime, the role of the media in shaping public perceptions, crime statistics, and campaigns for changes in the law.
Unit 2
Criminological Theories, examines why people commit crimes through biological, psychological, and sociological explanations such as strain theory, labelling theory, and social control theory.
Unit 3
Crime Scene to Courtroom, focuses on the criminal investigation process, including crime scene examination, forensic evidence, witness testimony, police powers, and court procedures.
Unit 4
Crime and Punishment, investigates the aims of punishment, including retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation, and reparation, as well as the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in reducing crime. Throughout the course, students develop research, analytical, and evaluative skills while gaining an understanding of how crime is measured, investigated, punished, and prevented, making it a useful foundation for careers and further study in criminology, law, policing, psychology, sociology, and related fields.
