Our history A-level will both challenge and inspire you. In this course you will have the opportunity to study a range of historical periods and countries. You'll explore the USA 1920-55: Boom, Bust and Recovery 1920-55, FDR and the Great Depression and investigate key political and social developments in 20th century Britain, including the historical debate around Mrs Thatcher’s governments of 1979-97. Finally, you will study the fascinating witch craze during the 17th and 18th centuries in Britain and elsewhere.
History provides you with essential key skills for whatever you choose to do in the future. Analysis of evidence, independent study skills, written and verbal communication skills are all developed on the course as well as promoting a passion for the past and perfectly preparing students for further education as well as the workplace.
The study of History will stretch and develop your academic skills, such as your ability to use knowledge, analyse evidence and evaluate interpretations. It will deepen your understanding, not only of the past, but also of the world we live in today. It is useful in a wide range of careers such as the legal profession, the civil service, teaching, local government, politics, and in pressure groups and charities. Employers particularly value history because of its academic rigour and the skills it promotes.
